What is Intumescent Coating?
Fire protection for buildings and structural elements is a critical safety measure required by building codes across India. Intumescent coatings are specialized paints that remain dormant under normal conditions. However, upon exposure to the extreme heat of a fire, they undergo a chemical reaction. They expand dramatically, forming a thick, insulating char layer that delays heat transfer and maintains the structural integrity of the building, allowing crucial time for evacuation and emergency response.
Protecting Structural Steel (KIP-800)
Structural steel loses its load-bearing capacity rapidly at high temperatures (typically around 550°C). To prevent a building collapse during a fire, structural steel beams and columns must be protected.
KIP-800 by Delite Paints is a water-based intumescent fire retardant coating specifically designed for structural steel. It provides up to a 2-hour fire rating, expanding upon heat exposure to protect the steel framework. It is ideal for commercial buildings, high-rises, hospitals, and industrial warehouses.
Protecting Wood and Panels (KIP-300)
Wood is highly combustible and acts as fuel during a fire. Fire-rating wooden panels, doors, and interior cladding is essential for holistic fire safety.
KIP-300 is our fire rating standard coating for wood, wooden panels, and MDF. It maintains the aesthetic appeal of the wood while providing a vital layer of fire resistance, significantly slowing down the spread of flames across the surface.
Application Considerations
- Surface preparation is critical. Steel must be properly primed with an compatible anti-corrosive primer before applying KIP-800.
- Film thickness is directly correlated to the fire rating duration. Always apply the coating exactly to the specified DFT (Dry Film Thickness) outlined in the product specifications.
- Our water-based solutions are eco-friendly, low odor, and safe for indoor applications in occupied buildings.
